March 1st – Worshiping the Earth God (Tudi Gong)

In the lunar calendar, March 1st is considered an auspicious day to worship Tudi Gong (the Earth God or Fude Zhengshen). Many people offer prayers on this day to seek blessings for wealth, prosperity, and protection for their homes and businesses.
Best Time to Worship
• Morning (7 AM – 11 AM) is the most auspicious time, as Tudi Gong is associated with yang (positive energy).
• If worshiping in the afternoon, avoid doing it too late (preferably before sunset).
Offerings to Prepare

1. Essential Offerings:
• Three Animal Sacrifices (San Sheng): Chicken, pork, and fish (or vegetarian options such as fruits and steamed cakes).
• Fruits: Common choices include bananas, apples, and oranges.
• Fa Gao (Steamed Prosperity Cake) or Red Tortoise Cake: Symbolizing prosperity and good fortune.
• Glutinous Rice Balls or Cooked Rice: Representing unity and abundance.
2. Paper Offerings & Incense:
• Tudi Gong Gold Paper (Fude Zhengshen Gold Paper)
• Shou Jin (Longevity Gold Paper) to show respect.
• Silver Paper for attracting wealth.
• Candles (Red or Longevity Candles) to enhance prosperity.
3. Beverages:
• Three cups of tea or one cup of rice wine (tea can be used as a substitute for wine).
Worship Procedure
1. Set up the offerings at your home entrance, business entrance, or a local Earth God shrine.
2. Light incense and sincerely pray, stating your full name, address, and reason for worship (e.g., gratitude, asking for wealth, protection, or blessings).
3. Bow and place incense sticks, usually three sticks, then wait until about one-third of the incense burns down before burning the paper offerings.
4. Burn the gold paper, and after the incense has fully burned out, collect and consume the offerings as a way to receive the blessings.

Post-Worship Taboos
• Offerings should be consumed respectfully and not discarded carelessly.
• Avoid saying unlucky words like “no money” or “losing money”, as it may affect financial luck.
• Do not extinguish incense by hand—let it burn out naturally or cover it with ashes.
Worshiping Tudi Gong on this day is believed to enhance financial prosperity and home protection. If you want to boost wealth luck further, you can prepare “Prosperity Water” (rice wine mixed with red sugar) to symbolize wealth flowing in.
